NEW! Please Fill Out by This Friday – Parent Survey
Good morning parents!
Spring has arrived and that means we are closing in on the end of the school year. The end of the year gives students, parents, and staff time to reflect on this ending year and plan for the one ahead. Our goal at Valley Oaks is to provide the best support to both students and parents. One of the ways we ensure that we are heading in the right direction is through an end-of-the-year parent survey. Please help us in identifying our areas of strength and our areas that need attention by completing the survey by clicking the link below. Thank you!

NEW! Special Order Showcase! If you will be ordering special order materials for the fall and would like to hear from experienced parent-teachers currently using these materials, join us on Wednesday, April 26th from 12:00-1:00 pm at the annex. We will have parents with their special order curriculum at tables for you to ask questions of and look through the curriculum.

NEW! Scholars for Success Club Continues This Friday, April 28th through Friday, May 5th We are very excited to announce our new Scholars for Success Club for grades 3-8 beginning April 21st and continuing through Friday, May 5th.  During these important sessions we will be giving your student preparation for the English Language Arts and Mathematics state testing they will be taking during the week of May 8th-12th. Students will be given important test-taking tips, shown testing tools they will be able to access while taking the test and helped to feel confident that they are ready for the testing week.

Here are the important times to come for each grade level:
3rd-5th grades- 10:00-11:00am
6th grade- 10:00-12:00pm
7th-8th grades- 9:00-11:00am

We are very proud of our parent educators who cover curriculum content so well and we want to help by giving students an opportunity to become familiar with the new online testing format which is quite different from the old paper and pencil state testing. This is a golden opportunity for students to practice, ask questions, learn new computer skills and put to rest any worries about this new testing experience.

And as an added bonus, parents can attend the Tips, Tools and Inspiration get-togethers at the same time (10-11am) on Friday, April 21st & Friday, April 28th where you will receive great test preparation ideas from resource teacher, Sam Bryant, and be able to interact with other parents as well.

Please keep in mind that while we would love for your students to attend every session, this club is on a drop-in basis and students are not required to attend every Friday!

No sign-up necessary.

NEW! Our annual Valley Oaks Extravaganza will be on May 18th at the Bakersfield Valley Oaks site.  This is a fun evening for the whole family, filled with carnival games and booths, a BBQ, talent show, and a raffle for gift baskets. The proceeds from the raffle and carnival go towards student scholarships for our high-schoolers and supplies for our school (such as our microscopes purchased 2 years ago).

We need your help! Our Tehachapi K8 raffle basket this year is “Top of the Mountain Reading Basket.” We will have a “Giving Tree” in the office. Please pick a leaf off of the tree to help us fill our basket. Each leaf will designate a book or $ amount to give. You will receive a free raffle ticket for each leaf fulfilled. Thanks for all of your help!

Our goal at Valley Oaks is to provide the best support to both students and parents. One of the ways we ensure that we are heading in the right direction is through an end-of-the-year parent survey. 8TH GRADE GRADUATION PARTY  Attention 8th graders! There will be an 8th-grade graduation party on May 22nd in Bakersfield, and you are invited! Join in the fun with an inflatable obstacle course, inflatable sack races, and lunch provided. Sign up with Ms. Darla in the office by May 15th to participate.

If you are interested in being a speaker at our  8th-grade graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, VOCS invites you to write an original graduation speech and recite it for a panel of Resource Teachers on Wednesday, May 17th, at 10:00 am at the Bakersfield VOCS. Graduation speakers will be chosen based on the quality and content of the speech, as well as on presentation skills.

  • Your speech must be original (your words)!
  • Your speech should be 3-5 minutes long.
  • Bring a hard copy of your speech for the panel to keep.
  • You may use notes; your speech need not be memorized in order for you to be considered as a speaker.
  • Remember:  As a graduation speaker, you should not make yourself the focus of the speech; rather, you are a representative of all of your fellow 8th-grade graduates.  We suggest that you explore themes such as the benefits of homeschooling through 8th grade, or looking toward the future.  Keep your speech optimistic and inclusive—something most graduates and guests can relate to!
  • We’ll see you at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 17th.
